Meditation and Mind Training Retreat with Drupon Rinpoche and Kating Lama

The Tara Rokpa Centre is honoured to host acclaimed Buddhist teachers Drupon Rinpoche and Kating Lama, marking their first trip to South Africa.

Drupon Rinpoche is a meditation master in the Kagyu tradition. He is Khenpo and Retreat Master at Kagyu Samye Ling in Scotland, and Thrangu Monastery in Nepal. Kating Lama has been named successor to Lama Yeshe Rinpoche to take over as Abbot of Samye Ling and all its associated Buddhist Centres, such as the TRC. This retreat will focus on meditation and mind training, incorporating instruction in shinnay and lojong. The provisional daily programme is outlined below:

30th August, Day 1:
Arrival of all participants and teachers (2pm-6pm)
Opening of retreat – 7pm

Day 2:
Morning Programme with Kating Lama
Lunch – 13.00
Start of teachings with Drupon Rinpoche
Supper – 18.00 – 19.00
Meditation Session – 19.00 – 20.30

Day 3 – Day 7:
Meditation Session – 05.30 – 07.00
Shinnay Instruction – 08.00 – 10.00
Meditation Session – 10.30 – 12.00
Lojong Teaching – 14.00 – 16.00
Meditation Session – 16.30 – 17.30
Prayers – 17.30 – 18.00
Meditation Session – 19.00 – 20.30

7th September, Day 8:

NB: Retreat participants are expected to make the commitment to come to every single session. No late arrivals or early departures are possible.

Retreat Cost

The cost of the retreat includes all food and accommodation for 8 nights, flight and visa costs for the teachers and translators, and environmental levy. Deduct R60 if you do not wish to contribute to the environmental levy.

A deposit of R1800 should accompany the booking, to confirm your room choice. At this stage, there are limited rooms available.  The deposit is non-refundable, but is transferable to another retreat, or another person on the waiting list.

Transport

Once we have confirmed numbers, bus transport will be arranged, probably leaving OR Tambo and/or Lanseria at noon on the first day of the retreat and returning to OR Tambo and/or Lanseria by 6pm on the final day.
