Mitta was one of the last remaining matriarchs of Modibate (“Die Stadt”, our next door neighbours). She lived in a completely ramshackled hut in a small family complex. It took 3 trips last Saturday to move her and her possessions into her newly constructed house in Rietvallei, a developing village which is about 8 km from TRC. Rietvallei has recently been electrified, and there is a promise of a school and shops. Her old bed and mattress fell apart as it was moved, so we gave her a bed and some funds to pay her helpers. Her terrified dog vanished  but Pippa brought Mitta back this weekend to catch her loyal dog, and take it back to its new home. Mitta returned to the community in which she had previously lived for many years to be amongst family and friends.

Thank you to those of you who contributed to our 21 Taras project. The funds collected have gone a long way to helping people to move into their own houses. We still have some miraculously appearing Taras – a donation of R1000 will get you a tiny Tara statue of your choice and your generosity will help people realise their dreams of moving into their own home.
