SUMMARY:The Lamp that Shines the Way
DESCRIPTION:with Alan Muller \nAtisha’s most celebrated text\, Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment\, sets forth the entire Buddhist path within the framework of three levels of motivation on the part of the practitioner. \nThis retreat will concentrate on the sections of the text which cover meditation and wisdom. Sessions will include guided meditations associated with the text. These will take the form of shinay/calm abiding meditations and meditations which fall under the paramita of wisdom. \nWe see in Atisha’s text one of the prerequisites for calm abiding meditation is a conducive environment\, and Tara Rokpa Centre provides this very important element. \nEveryone is welcome to join in this retreat\, whether you are familiar with the text or not. Alan will tell stories\, guide reflections and meditations so that we can fully absorb the advice of the ancient master Atisha. There will also be time for personal practice\, as well as time for relaxation and walks. \nPeople may join in the whole retreat which starts on Wednesday evening or can come for the weekend starting Friday night: 3 – 7 July (full retreat\, 4 nights) or 5 – 7 July (weekend option\, 2 nights). \n“In my opinion\, the ‘Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment’ is one of the most representative works of Tibetan Buddhism.”\nHH 17th Karmapa. \nYour Facilitator\nThe retreat will be led by Alan Muller who took refuge in 1997 with Akong Rinpoche. In 2003\, he completed a one-year closed retreat under the guidance of Lama Yeshe Rinpoche at Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland. During this period\, he took novice monk’s vows. Alan remained a novice monk for six years and now presents courses and retreats as a layperson. He has formed Ngondro groups since 2004 around Southern Africa. \n  \nCost:\nThe cost covers accommodation and all meals from either Wednesday evening (4 nights)\, or Friday evening (2 nights)\, until lunch on Sunday.
