Accommodation at the Tara Rokpa Centre
TRC is situated in the North West province about 3 hours drive from Gauteng and 2 hours from Gaborone. It is 25 kms from the small town of Groot Marico, and 45 kms from Zeerust. The centre caters for up to sixty practitioners, or those seeking a quiet place to recharge and recover from busy lives in the urban centres. It is ideal for resting, walking in nature, mountain biking on quiet gravel roads or diving at the Eye (die Oog). When not in use for therapy or dharma courses, we welcome individuals, families and larger groups to use our accommodation and share the beauty of our retreat centre. The farmhouse-style accommodation is comfortable and clean and a variety of different properties are available.
All properties are provided with bedding and towels, and vegetarian meals are available on request.

For family-friendly retreats, or self catering accommodation, children under 3 years old are free and children under 10 years old are half price.
Akong Rinpoche’s House
This is a renovated brick built cottage comprising one large en suite room and one smaller bedroom. It invites the visitor onto a large front ‘stoep’ with views over grass to distant hills.
This is a renovated brick cottage and offers the visitor 4 twin and 1 double bedroom and a large sunny porch, lounge, kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and a toilet.
Main House (Ma Kang)
This is a quaint brick farmhouse, recently renovated, with a beautiful stoep that overlooks the garden, and beautiful vistas of the valley. There is a dormitory, a double room and 3 single rooms. It also contains Tara’s Shrine room, which is ideal for personal practice.
These are two double en suite rooms, with a small stoep, overlooking the main site and near the dining hall. They are sometimes reserved for dharma teachers and retreat facilitators, or those who helped with the financial support for their construction.
This is a family home offering one twin bedroom en suite, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and dormitory accommodation, and 2 additional bathrooms. There is an enclosed yard, so retreat participants who wish to bring their dogs can request to be accommodated here.
Training Centre House
This is a large brick built family farmhouse with three twin and one triple room. It also has a large sitting room, that can be converted into a dormitory for large groups, particularly school children. It is mainly used for specific training events, particularly for TRC’s environmental project – Tikologo. During large retreats, it is sometimes used for overflow accommodation.
Tara’s Valley Retreat House
This property comprises a brick built house with a large stoep, and a Lassak built house, both overlooking the valley. It is TRC’s 6-month closed retreat centre, and can no longer be hired for casual accommodation.
The TRC campsites are situated close to the Main Farm House, and offer great views of the valley and riverside. Please bring your own tent. TRC no longer has tents available. There are campsite ablution blocks with rocket showers and composting toilets.
